The Finances: Caregiving

Yesterday was National Financial Awareness Day 2018 – August 14. National Financial Awareness Day has inspired me to share information regarding the financial side of being a caregiver. Caregiving is not free.  Even if your family is providing all the care and doing all the work – it still has an economic cost.  Some resources are available to caregivers, some include: • VA Aid & Attendance Benefits – Veterans are often eligible for additional senior services and for a VA pension. Spouses of veterans should also inquire about VA benefits • Long-Term Care Insurance – Most long-term care insurance policies can be used for home care services. Read your policy, or call about the policy, because some policies require that the policy holder have 3 or 4 needs/assistance in bathing, dressing, and other activities • Medicare – Covers limited items – sometimes exceptions can be made if Medicare is called and your providers help get things covered • Medicaid – Medicaid prov

Essential Oils

I wanted to share about Essential Oils or Aromatherapy today. I am a member of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, American Holistic Nurses Association, and Palmetto American Holistic Nurses Association. Aromatherapy is a holistic approach to health, using pure essential oils extracted from: • Leaves • Stems • Fruits • Flowers • Leaves • Bark • Seeds • Berries • Roots of plants • Trees • Herbs Aromatherapy is also referred to as Essential Oil Therapy. The goal is to support health and well-being. Aromatherapy is seen as a complementary practice to be used in conjunction with medical and/or nursing practices. Essential oils are distilled or expressed aromatic extracts from a wide range of aromatic/medicinal plants. Each essential oil can consist of 200+ individual chemical components all working in synergy to provide a range of therapeutic properties and each essential oil has a unique aroma.
